How was your camp?
Some of you have blogged about your camp. I see that most of you have enjoyed your camp. My personal favourite is the flying fox! At first you may be afraid, especially just before you “take flight”, but once you cross that point and “fly”, you find that you enjoy the sensation of dangling in the air and the wind blowing in your face. At the same time, your heart would be pumping hard as the excitement engulf you. You hold on tightly to your “lifeline” - the rope - because that is your only support at that point. However, the whole thing is quite short and when it is over, you might even ask yourself “So fast?”.
Fear? What’s that?
Agree with me? That was how I had felt when I first tried it. That was many years ago and I still remember it very well.
The whole idea of the camp is to let you experience independence and to know yourself better. You find that when you are out there on your own, you have to depend on yourself. You have to decide on what you are going to eat, how to organize your things, wrestle in your own mind how to do certain tasks, strategize, cooperate with your friends, tolerate one another, live with one another, help one another, and most importantly, take care of yourself. No maid, no mummy, just yourself and your friends. Of course the instructors and teachers were there to help you, but I’m sure you had the chance to experience independent thinking.
Please share with me the learning points of the camp. What did you discover about yourself? Were you more courageous that you have thought? Did you overcome any fear? Did you fail in any task? Why? What do you need in order to complete the Bukit Timah Hill climbing, besides a lot of energy?
I’ll give a prize for the best sharing!
Please put the title of your blog entry as “What I have learnt from the Camp”.
(Tell you a secret: I visited you all late at night on Friday - around 11.30pm - and all of you were deep in slumberland already …. zzzzz ….)
